European Institute of Innovation and Technology(EIT) to launch new Knowledge and Innovation Community(KIC) in water, marine and maritime sectors.

What's is EIT?

The EIT, established in 2008 as an EU body under Horizon Europe, promotes innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe by integrating education, research, and business sectors. Through its Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs), it addresses societal challenges and fosters innovation in areas like climate, digitalization, health, and sustainable energy, supporting entrepreneurship and technology commercialization.

What's the purpose of the NEW KIC?

The establishment of a new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC), known as EIT Water, is aimed at addressing urgent global issues such as water scarcity, droughts, floods, and the degradation of marine and freshwater ecosystems. EIT Water will leverage partnerships and innovative solutions to enhance the blue economy and bolster Europe's competitiveness in these crucial sectors.

What's the plans of the EIT KIC?

The new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) under the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) will focus on integrating freshwater, marine, and maritime sectors. It aims to foster entrepreneurial education, skill development, and innovation projects, supporting the entire lifecycle from ideation to commercialization of new technologies, products, and services. The initiative seeks financial sustainability through successful innovations and contributions from external partners, aiming to extend its impact beyond the initial EIT funding period.

EIT Water aims to position Europe as a leader in global water challenges, enhancing EU competitiveness, employment, and economic growth alongside the EIT's existing KICs addressing climate, digitalization, energy, health, raw materials, food security, manufacturing, urban mobility, and culture & creativity.

The event schedule of new EIT KIC in 2025.

In early 2025, the EIT will issue a call for proposals for EIT Water, aligning with its Strategic Innovation Agenda. The new KIC will be chosen in 2025 and launched in 2026. To inform potential applicants about this opportunity, the EIT will host online info seminars in autumn 2024.
